Day 10 – Vienna (or Wein as we call it – we are nearly European now)
Hottest day yet 38C at times. Vienna is absolutely stunning, it seems every corner you turn there is another amazing building, statue, fountain or park. Stu said Wein is full of beautiful Abbeys but I told him they were actually Baroque Cathedrals. We were both surprised (considering how expensive and affluent it is) how many drunks/vagrants there were… we fitted in beautifully as you can imagine. We did the usual tourist bus thing around the town but to be honest it was best seen on foot as they don’t really go into the heart of Vienna. A good couple of hours was spent out of the midday sun in Haus der Musik so the girls are now fully informed about the Viennese classical period. Olivia ended the tour conducting the Vienna Philharmonic by cyber baton! I hate to say it but we ended a fantastically cultural day in McDonalds! It was air-conditioned and cheap so both girls and Stu were very happy. Not sure if we can put pictures on at the moment but they will follow.
If pictures are successful you will see that Stu had an altogether better toilet experience in Vienna! Plus as you hopefully will see the Summer Palace has got him thinking about his next self-build plans.
Sorry FOD fans (heres 1 in 2 parts):
Vienna’s Zentralfriedhof ( central cemetery ) is Europe’s second largest cemetery with 2.5 square kilometers/1 square mile of dead people.
Twice as many people are buried at the Zentralfriedhof than actually live within the city limits of Vienna.
Sounds like a grand place, could be going on our places to visit list. You do know that you will be tested on all this cultural knowledge on your return. Assume you are saving the chocolate cake for the last day in Vienna, can't imagine Olivia will let you leave without trying some. Weather seems to be perfect, we could do with some of that sun here. Hope the girls are having a lovely time. Love Mum and Dad xxxx
